Just before 11am on Tuesday morning an elderly man was stabbed in the city of Borås.
The man was taken to hospital, but his life couldn’t be saved. The horrific attack took place near a school, and several students were witnesses to the murder.
After the attack, the perpetrator is said to have walked calmly away from the scene.
The suspect was at time of writing still not arrested. A large area was cordoned off by police and a massive police presence has been in the area during the day.
According to witnesses, the suspect was wearing a grey hoodie, light pants and white shoes. He is also said to have had a bag with him.
Police are looking for witnesses and tips from members of the public.
The vice chief prosecutor in Borås, Ove Jäverfelt, thinks it is strange that the perpetrator walked calmly from the scene.
“It feels unusual. Without being a psychologist, it does feel strange” he said to Göteborgs Posten.
The attack took place near a school, however a decision was made to not close down the school and send home the students.
“In consultation with police we made the decision to not lock the school and not send home the students. Our goal was to normalize the situation as much as possible” said Julio Garcia Atterström at Borås City primary school management.
Police have been on the scene during the evening with a mobile police office, and worked with creating safety in the area.
