Affiliate Disclosure

Times of Sweden may use affiliate links as one way of financing the publication.

This Affiliate Disclosure explains how these links work and how we seek to protect our editorial independence.

An affiliate link is a specially coded link to a product, service, booking platform, retailer or other external website.

When a reader follows an affiliate link and later completes a qualifying action, Times of Sweden may receive a commission or another form of compensation.

A qualifying action may include:

  • making a purchase;
  • completing a booking;
  • registering for a service;
  • requesting information;
  • beginning a trial;
  • completing another action defined by the affiliate provider.

Normally, using an affiliate link does not increase the price paid by the reader.

Prices, availability, eligibility rules and conditions are determined by the external provider and may change without notice.

Times of Sweden does not control the final price or contract between a reader and an external provider.

Articles or pages containing affiliate links may include a disclosure such as:

“This article contains affiliate links. Times of Sweden may receive a commission if you complete a purchase or booking through one of these links, at no additional cost to you.”

Individual links may also be marked with wording such as:

  • Affiliate link;
  • Commercial link;
  • Partner link;
  • We may earn a commission.

The form of the disclosure may vary depending on the type and layout of the content, but it should be reasonably clear to the reader.

4. Editorial independence

Affiliate relationships do not give a company the right to:

  • approve our independent editorial content;
  • require positive coverage;
  • remove justified criticism;
  • determine our conclusions;
  • guarantee that its product or service will be included.

We may publish criticism of a company even when we participate in its affiliate programme.

We may also recommend or mention products for which no commission is available.

5. Selection of products and services

A product or service may be included because it is:

  • relevant to the subject of an article;
  • useful to readers;
  • widely available;
  • connected with travel, events or services discussed in our coverage;
  • considered suitable for comparison with other options.

Commercial availability may be one factor in deciding whether to include a link, but it should not be presented as independent evidence that a product is superior.

6. Sponsored content is different

Affiliate content is not necessarily sponsored content.

With an affiliate link, payment normally depends on a reader completing an action. In sponsored content, a company may pay for the creation or publication of material.

Sponsored articles, paid partnerships and advertisements should be separately identified using labels such as:

  • Advertisement;
  • Sponsored;
  • Paid partnership;
  • Commercial collaboration.

Sponsored content should not be presented as independent news reporting.

7. Accuracy of commercial information

We try to describe products, prices and conditions accurately at the time of publication.

However:

  • prices may change;
  • offers may expire;
  • availability may differ by country;
  • terms may be changed by the provider;
  • an external website may display different information.

Readers should check the provider’s current terms before making a purchase, booking or financial commitment.

8. External providers

Purchases and bookings are completed directly with third-party providers.

Times of Sweden is not normally:

  • the seller;
  • the booking agent;
  • the payment processor;
  • the manufacturer;
  • the supplier of the external service.

Questions concerning an order, cancellation, delivery, refund or warranty should generally be directed to the relevant provider.

9. Cookies and tracking

Affiliate programmes may use cookies or similar technologies to record that a visitor arrived through a Times of Sweden link.

Where consent is required, affiliate measurement technologies should be activated only in accordance with the reader’s cookie choices.

Further information is available in our Cookie Policy and Privacy Policy.
